Sunday Funday!

Why is Sunday one of the most dreaded days of the week? Probably because it’s the end of the weekend, but at the same time, the beginning of the work week. Sundays are spent bracing ourselves for Monday; prepping lunch for the week, catching up/finishing up on work/homework we put off the entire weekend, recuperating from a night of partying, you name it. What I dreaded most about Sundays as a young child was grocery shopping. The crowd, the herd of people, it drove me bonkers. I always felt extra mopey on Sundays too, knowing that Friday was so far off!

Fortunately though, for the past two years, Sundays seem to have become slightly more bearable…

I hate to admit this, but since I met my boyfriend, Sundays have never been the same. I mean, I still dread it, but not as much anymore. No, guys, I’m not suggesting that getting a significant other will miraculously make Sundays less of a drag! lol but I will admit, doing little tedious errands with them is quite enjoyable; grocery shopping, like I mentioned before, was one of my least favourite activities ever, but my opinion has changed now…

There’s the segue for my Sunday suggestion; In need of a nice, practical, cheap date? Why not go shopping for groceries with your loved one? It may seem like a minor activity to do but this is an opportunity for you to get to know each other on a different level. A lot can be said about an individual’s choice in ice cream or fruits or…laundry detergent! & you can make the mini shopping trip fun in your own little way (keeping in mind not to mess up the store, please :)).

Relaxing while I peruse the makeup aisle.
Yesterday’s shopping adventure included going to a variety of supermarkets to check out some sales (because we are frugal like that), & I convinced the boyfriend to go to one of the new Target locations here in Edmonton; opportunity to explore some place new? Even better!

Little gems that I find!
Honestly, I find running little errands to be less…chore-like when you’re having a little fun with it. There is definitely less complaining on my end when Sunday comes rolling around nowadays.

What are your favourite Sunday activities? Do you have any Sunday routines you share with your significant other?

I also heard there was a Rodeo/Mini Carnival that went on in St. Albert this past weekend; did any of you go? How was it? I was quite bummed I did not find out about this till it was over! Hopefully there’ll be another one in the near future which I will definitely keep my eye out for!

So till next time, guys!

Looking forward to Summer?

You should! Summer time is the season that most Edmontonians look forward to during the year. & really…how could we not, considering that we only get a good 4-5 solid months of it (if we’re lucky!)

What’s not to love about summer in Edmonton? We can dust off our sandals, kick our feet up & relax on the patio, & best of all, BBQ season! Need I say more?

Apart from the obvious perks of summer here, there is a huge assortment of outdoor activities that take place around the city! But where does one find information about these fun events? I utilize Twitter to the max. Following the right people & organizations will help keep you up to date. If Twitter isn’t exactly your cup of tea, well…that is where this blog comes in :) So let’s get crackin’!
  • For those interested in being outdoors, you should definitely check out the 124th Street Grand Market, which kicks off tomorrow night (May 23rd, 2013) from 4PM – 8PM! It’s on every Thursday night, so don’t worry, if you don’t get a chance to check it out tomorrow or anytime soon, you’ve got plenty of time since this Market is around till the 3rd of October! According to the website, they offer a variety of different vendors for you to explore, entertainment, & a mixture of food vendors for you to try out (including food trucks!) The Market is located on 108th Avenue & 124th Street. For more information, check out their website at 124 Street Grand Market or follow them on Twitter: @124GrandMarket.
  • Anyone interested in Hip-Hop & being outdoors? Even if you’re not, it definitely sounds like something worth checking out. According to Family Fun Edmonton, the 6th annual “Hip Hop in the Park” takes place on May 25th, 2013 at Louise McKinney Park. It runs from 12PM – 8PM & is a free event! For more information, visit the Family Fun Edmonton website here or follow them on Twitter: @Familyfunyeg or HipHop in the Park.
For the week, those are the events that caught my eye. I will be updating if I catch wind of anything else! As stated before, these suggestions are great date ideas, however, they are also perfect for the whole family or with a group of friends!

Let me know if you plan on visiting these venues, or if you have been before, tell me what your experience were like! A blog entry of my own experience will be posted if I get the chance to make it out to these events :)

The In’s & Out’s of DATE-TOPIA.

First & foremost, I’d like to warmly welcome you to DATE-TOPIA & am happy to see that you’ve stumbled across this quirky little pink blog of mine. Chances are you’re here because you’ve found yourself stumped when it comes to things to do in our growing little city of Edmonton.

We've all been there; wondering where to go & what to do. Edmontonians, in particular, seem to ask these burning questions often. Unfortunately, there are times where it may seem like a chore trying to plan a date. Come winter-time, most of us just throw in the towel & give up considering how limited the amount of activities there are to choose from. Once the snow melts, things definitely look a bit brighter, but I still hear remnants of moaning & groaning from people who can’t shake the winter blues. So that is where this blog comes into play.

The purpose of this blog is to provide a resource for those in need of help in this area or need a bit of inspiration to plan something unique & fun (while being cost-efficient)!

I'm sure there are many people in this city, like myself, who has google'd & asked around for date ideas, but came up dry. Hopefully, this blog can become a very helpful tool for you, & many others like you.

I will be posting up my own experiences, restaurant suggestions/reviews & (hopefully) up-to-date events that are occurring in the city, so that you all can maximize your opportunities for a potentially successful cute date :)
(Author’s Note: Suggestions from this blog are not date-specific. You can modify & adapt these ideas & enjoy them with your friends &/or family as well!)

So let’s stop the bellyaching & start being more proactive! Enjoy what this city has to offer & let’s make the most of it!
